About the Position

The role of the RPN is a valued and integral member of the Peninsula Health multidisciplinary Mental Health team who uses their previous Mental Health experience to demonstrate flexibility in caring for clients and their families with Mental Health issues.

About our Psychiatric Assessment and Planning Unit (PAPU)
Our PAPU was opened in June 2017 and is a purpose built six bed unit that enables mental health clients to be rapidly transferred from the Emergency Department to our unit for up to 72 hours.

The facility is a 24 hour, 7 days a week mental health short stay assessment and planning unit for the provision of accelerated access to specialist psychiatric assessment and short term treatment to better address planning and partnering support arrangements for the client back in the community on discharge. It is located next to the Emergency Department and has been designed to incorporate natural light and therapeutic colours and furnishings.

The PAPU emphasis incorporates suicide prevention and provides support for clients who are at risk of self-harming.

The role of the six bed PAPU is to ensure that clients receive timely access to short term assessment and planning care and treatment where required and to minimise the need for an acute inpatient stay by ensuring that clients can be adequately and appropriately supported in the community.
