Position Summary

The Registrar in Medical Administration will work under the direction of the Executive Director of Medical Services (EDMS) and Clinical Governance.

The Registrar will support activities such as service planning, clinical governance and ethics, development of new models of care, innovation in healthcare, workforce and clinical audit and review. The incumbent will provide support and service to areas allocated by the EDMS in accordance with their skill level and training requirements.

Key Responsibilities

• Support the Executive Director Medical Services (EDMS) and Clinical Governance and other Executive Directors in projects and activities related to professional medical issues, medical education, quality and clinical governance and operational management of acute services.
• Supervise HMO in Clinical Governance.
• Participate in relevant projects aligned with the RACMA training program developed with the EDMS
• Participate in relevant patient safety, quality improvement and operational activities.
• Participate in ACHS accreditation survey activities.
• Support the EDMS and Medical Workforce Unit in management of medical practitioners including interview panel membership as required.
• Support the EDMS and other Executive Directors in medical workforce planning, recruitment and retention strategies.
• Participate in relevant operational and finance activities, including investigative services utilisation reviews, patient flow initiatives etc.
• Attend and present to (where appropriate) relevant meetings such as Clinical Handover, Recognising and Responding to Clinical Deterioration and Mortality Review meetings
• Assist in the investigation of sentinel and critical adverse events and patient complaints
• Be aware of and work in accordance with organisational policies and procedures including occupational health and safety and relevant legislative requirements.
• Demonstrate positive workplace behaviours and relationships at all times.

Essential Criteria


• MBBS or equivalent
• Candidacy of the Royal Australasian College of Medical Administrators (RACMA)
• Completion of PGY3 year
• Registration as a Medical Practitioner with AHPRA
• Working towards or having completed a relevant postgraduate management qualification
• Well-developed written and verbal communication skills

Desirable: Has an adequate theoretical understanding of the RACMA competencies as they apply in the acute health care sector
Desirable: Has (and is committed to further developing) an understanding of organisation wide management and leadership practices associated with the delivery of clinical care
