The Exercise Physiologist works within the Integrated care and Dental stream within Peninsula Health Community Health. This stream targets the health needs of adults 65 years and older, younger adults with a disability and adults with a chronic condition and/or psycho social issues. This includes the indigenous community and CALD groups.

The role of the exercise physiologist within the Early Intervention in Chronic Disease (EIiCD) program includes treatment services, early intervention, health promotion and prevention programs including self-management strategies to meet the needs of the target group within a social model of health by;
• Promoting wellness
• Encouraging people to share in responsibility for their wellbeing
• Encouraging community participation
• Liaison and coordination with service providers

Selection Criteria Essential: Registration and accreditation with Exercise and Sports Science Australia (ESSA).
Essential: Demonstrated understanding of the pathophysiology of the target pathologies (including, but not limited to, cardiopulmonary, metabolic, musculoskeletal, neurological or neuromuscular conditions, cancers, mental health disorders and chronic pain).
Essential: Demonstrated ability to design, deliver, evaluate, modify and advance exercise/ physical activity programs.
Essential: Communicate effectively (verbal, written, electronic) using brief and concise language and appropriate syntax for other EP’s, medical and health professionals and clients.
Essential: Proven ability to use various exercise modalities (including land and water-based therapies) in the prescription of appropriate and effective exercise regimes for clients.
Desirable: Experience of Motivational interviewing/health coaching when working with clients through behaviour change.
Desirable: Capacity to supervise students, Allied Health Assistants and volunteers, promote professional competence and foster individual staff development.
Desirable: Demonstrated an ability to facilitate both group/ individual exercise and education interventions.
