Position Summary

Peninsula Health currently has an opportunity for an experienced Social Worker to join our team on a full time, permanent basis. The Head of Social Work is responsible for leading the Social Work, Interpreters and Spiritual Care services at Peninsula Health to provide excellent clinical care, achieve maximal operational effectiveness and foster partnerships within and external to Peninsula Health. This role provides operational and professional governance Social Work, Interpreters and Spiritual Care staff and is an integral member of the Allied Health Leadership Team.

Key Responsibilities

• Operational and professional governance, leadership and management of Social Work, Interpreters and Spiritual Care staff in acute inpatient, sub-acute inpatient and acute outpatient services.
• Professional governance of Social Work staff across all programs of Peninsula Health.
• In collaboration with relevant managers, ensure provision of evidence based, best practice Social Work, Interpreters and Spiritual Care and facilitate a strong professional governance structure and effective communication across all areas of Peninsula Health.
• Provide strong day to day professional support and direction to Social Work, Interpreters and Spiritual Care staff to ensure high quality clinical care, facilitate patient flow and optimal patient outcomes.
• Facilitate optimal operational management, including achievement of budgets, targets and key performance indicators, to ensure resources are managed efficiently and effectively.
• Collaboration with other Allied Health profession heads to facilitate a co-ordinated approach and effective teamwork across Allied Health and to advance the Allied Health workforce.
• Sharing of contemporary knowledge and expertise related to key issues and government policy/reforms, their impact on Social Work and broader implications for Peninsula Health.

Essential Criteria

• Eligible for membership of Australian Association of Social Workers.
• Recent experience in managing delivery of Social Work services at a senior level.
• Extensive and advanced clinical knowledge, skills and experience in Social Work.
• Strong knowledge of acute and sub-acute inpatient and acute outpatient Social Work service provision.
• Ability to work collaboratively and as an effective member of a senior leadership team.
• Ability to support and supervise staff, promote professional competence and foster individual staff development.
• Extensive human resource management experience.
• High level skills in project management, service development and quality improvement activities.
• Exceptional verbal and written communication skills and relationship management.
• Strong and innovative strategic planning skills.
• Excellent leadership skills.
• Strong financial management and problem-solving skills including break-even or better budget management.
• Effectively lead and manage change.
