Position Summary

The Enrolled Nurse (EN) is a valued and integral member of the Peninsula Health multidisciplinary team demonstrating flexibility in caring for patients and their families across the organisation. A PEN is an enrolled nurse who works as part of the specialist mental health nursing team, under the supervision of an RPN. Core PEN responsibilities in the provision of patient-centred nursing care include recognition of normal and abnormal in assessment, intervention and evaluation of individual health and functional status provision of support and comfort, assisting with activities of daily living to achieve an optimal level of independence, and providing for emotional needs of individuals with their aim being to ensure physical and psychological wellbeing and recover of clients. The PEN monitors the impact of nursing care and maintains ongoing communication with the registered nurse regarding the health and functional status of individuals.
At all times the EN retains responsibility for his/her actions and remains accountable in providing delegated nursing care. The enrolled nurse must maintain ongoing communication with the registered nursing including reporting changes in health and functional status and individual responses to health care intervention to deliver safe, evidence based person centred care to achieve optimal health outcomes or a dignified death.

Key Responsibilities

• Assess, plan, implement, evaluate and document comprehensive nursing care within the area in accordance with evidence based best practice standards and Peninsula Health Values
• Ensure the safety of the public, patients and staff in relation to the provision of a safe environment from both OH&S and Infection Control Perspectives.
• Complete all mandatory training as per hospital policy and participate in organised training and development activities.

Essential Criteria

• Enrolled Nurse with current NMBA registration.
• Demonstrated commitment to delivering high quality outcomes for consumers
• Demonstrated clinical knowledge and skills commensurate with experience and scope of practice.
• Ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
• Able to use basic computer software applications.
• Prepares written documentation using clear, concise and grammatically correct language.
• Communicates well with and relates to consumers from a wide range of cultures and backgrounds
