Peninsula Health provides public healthcare services to residents of the Mornington Peninsula.

Our hospitals and emergency departments are located at Frankston and Rosebud, and we provide a wide range of community health, dental, rehabilitation, mental health, palliative care ad aged care services from campuses at Frankston, Hastings, Mornington and Rosebud.

Position Summary
The Nurse Unit Manager (NUM) is a valued member of the leadership team at Peninsula Health, committed to upholding Peninsula Health’s values and meeting organisational goals.

The NUM is instrumental in the planning process and the effective allocation of resources for the ward/unit. They are responsible for leading and managing a diverse team ensuring that their staff deliver safe, evidence based, person centred care to achieve optimal health outcomes or a dignified death.

Rosebud Emergency Department (ED) consists of nine cubicles and a Fast Track area, and sees approximately 22,000 presentations a year. The Mornington Peninsula is a popular holiday destination, and the population swells by up to 100,000 people at peak periods over December/January and at Easter in particular, impacting demand for Emergency Services in the region.

The ED NUM will work closely with the leadership team at Rosebud Hospital in achieving the objective of a well-managed hospital stay for each patient, including maintenance of access to a timely service for all via a focus on key performance indicators.

Key Responsibilities
• Lead and manage the team to achieve high quality clinical care in accordance with evidence based practice standards and Peninsula Health Values.
• Lead and manage the team to achieve department Key Performance Indictors.
• Ensure the safety of the public, patients and staff in relation to the provision of relevant Acts (OH&S, & Infection Control) and Peninsula Health Policies.
• Ensure all administrative functions are completed including the management of resources within the Unit/Department.
• Promote a culture of continuous service improvement within the Unit/Department by monitoring standards of service and practice.
• Ensure all staff have completed mandatory training and have active performance development plans.

Selection Criteria Essential: Registered Nurse with current AHPRA registration
Essential: Post Basic Qualifications in Critical Care
Essential: Experience in a leadership or management role in an Emergency Department/Critical Care environment.

Essential: Supports individuals and the team, delegating responsibilities appropriately.
Essential: Understands the issues and pressures to which the organisation has to respond.
Essential: Identifies and supports where necessary the need for change
Essential: Uses a range of software application features for word processing, spread sheets etc.
Desirable: Experience in a leadership or management role
Desirable: Working towards or having completed a postgraduate qualification in health management.
