This is a clinical role that sits within Peninsula Health’s (PH) AOD Program and is based in the Community Health sites, including Frankston, Rosebud and Hastings. The position involves supporting people to safely achieve neuroadaptation reversal through an abrupt cessation of AODs or through a gradual reduction in the use of AODs. This is coordinated with the Consult Liaison Addiction Medicine Service within Peninsula Health and the client’s General Practitioner. Within PH AOD Program, Withdrawal Nurses work as part of a multidisciplinary team and are required to provide shared-care for some clients. The Registered Nurse (RN) is a valued and integral member of the Peninsula Health multidisciplinary team demonstrating flexibility in caring for clients and their families across the AOD service.

Key Responsibilities

•Assess, plan, implement, evaluate and document comprehensive nursing withdrawal within the AOD service in accordance with evidence based best practice standards and Peninsula Health Values.
•In collaboration with the client and their family, develop the client’s initial recovery plan, determining the clinical components of the withdrawal treatment required, engaging and involving family and other supports as required
•Liaise with Care and Recovery and Counselling Clinicians to ensure that continuity of care is maintained for clients along their entire treatment journey, as well as deliver post-withdrawal care that addresses psychological, social and behavioural problems associated with substance use as required
•Link clients with further AOD services, and other health/human/support services as required
•Ensure the safety of the public, clients and staff in relation to the provision of a safe environment from both OH&S and Infection Control Perspectives.
•Complete all mandatory training as per hospital policy and participate in organised training and development activities.
•Assist in the orientation of new staff and the supervision and instruction of students.

Essential Criteria

•Registered Nurse with current AHPRA registration.
•Demonstrated commitment to delivering high quality outcomes for consumers.
•Demonstrated clinical knowledge and skills in evidence-based withdrawal management, pharmacotherapies and behavioural therapies.
•Victorian Driver’s Licence
•Ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
•Able to use basic computer software applications.
•Prepares written documentation using clear, concise and grammatically correct language.
•Communicates well with and relates to consumers from a wide range of cultures and backgrounds.
