Position Summary

Peninsula Health currently has an exciting opportunity for a passionate Diversional Therapist to join the Diversional and Occupational Therapy team in our 26 bed Aged Person's Mental Health Residential Unit (Carinya).

The successful applicant will demonstrate creativity, good communication skills and the ability to work within a diverse team. The capacity to run groups effectively and also provide 1:1 person centred activities is essential.

Key Responsibilities

Provide safe, personal, effective and connected care to Peninsula Health patients within the clinical scope of practice
• Provide high quality, safe and cost effective diversional therapy services, in accordance with evidence based practice standards and Peninsula Health values
• Deliver, in consultation with relevant care staff, suitable diversional therapy and recreational programs that encourage participation, independence, reflect patient preferences and are considerate of special individualised needs.

Essential Criteria

• Relevant qualifications in Diversional Therapy, Leisure and Health or equivalent
• Highly motivated, enthusiastic and committed to aged care
• Demonstrated skills in delivering programs to people with dementia
• Sound knowledge and experience in managing challenging behaviours through the use of diversional activities
• Demonstrated ability to contribute to patient care plans as part of a multidisciplinary team

Selection Criteria Essential: Relevant qualifications in Diversional Therapy, Leisure and Health or equivalent

Essential: Demonstrated ability to determine patients’ needs and evaluate the participation and progress of patients attending programs
Essential: Well-developed interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written
Essential: Ability to use a wide range of software applications for word processing, databases etc
Essential: Demonstrated ability to work independently and in a multidisciplinary team
Essential: Ability to meet the physical requirements of the position
Essential: Highly motivated, enthusiastic and committed to aged care
