Position Summary

This position responds to high levels of child development need in disadvantaged communities in the catchment area. The role is focused on children with mild-moderate developmental delays. Opportunities for innovative practice and further leadership development are available to this role. In addition to individual assessments and intervention, the role will provide support to families and sector workers on the communication and developmental needs of the child.

A holistic approach to supporting the family, informed by the social model of health is valued. This includes outreach, consultancy, education, group work and community linkages. The role will also facilitate access to other care, health promotion and education services as required.

The Grade 2 Speech Pathologist contributes to the discipline group responsible for providing and coordinating the clinical services requiring a speech pathology input in a multidisciplinary setting. Occasional out of hours work may be required each term.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver sensitive and evidence based speech pathology and multidisciplinary care within a family focused practice framework to children with developmental delays.
• Provide leadership and support to other team members, other discipline staff, volunteers and students, to ensure that their consumers receive quality care.
• Contribute positively to a team dedicated to innovation and excellence.
• Maintain excellent standards of documentation, statistics and record keeping.
• Be aware of and work in accordance with organisational policies and procedures including award conditions, occupational health and safety and equal employment opportunity
• Support a child safe organisation by valuing, respecting, and listening to children and young people and by undertaking screening for suitability to work with children and vulnerable people and to comply with relevant state/territory legislative requirements.

Selection Criteria Essential: • Qualification in Speech Pathology and maintain a practicing membership of Speech Pathology Australia.
Essential: • Substantial experience providing evidence–based therapy services to young children and their families within the community sector including group work.
Essential: •Established skills and commitment to working in child-centred and family-focused practices including skills in working with vulnerable and disadvantaged families.
Essential: •Proven ability to lead projects and drive continuous quality improvement.
Essential: •Developing leadership skills and commitment to reflective, continuous learning.
Essential: •Commitment to operationalizing the core values/principles of the social model of health and the key worker model.
Essential: •Capacity to support staff of other disciplines in capacity building, promote professional competence and foster self-development.
Essential: •Developed multidisciplinary skills with a wide age range of children. •Proven ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team environment.
Essential: •Demonstrated high level analytical and report writing skills.
Essential: • Holder of a both a current ‘Working with Children Check’ and Victorian Driver’s License.
