Position Summary
This Social Work position will be based in the Emergency Medical Department (ED) at Frankston Hospital. Responsibilities include crisis intervention, psychosocial assessments and a full range of interventions for patients/families, and, when appropriate, follow-up phone calls and post discharge intervention. Services will also include counselling, practical assistance (e.g. home care, entitlements, referral for community services) and close collaboration with the social workers in the inpatient settings to whom ED patients may be referred for follow-up.

This Grade 3 position is a recognised clinical expert with advanced skills and professional knowledge in women’s health, crisis intervention; grief, death and dying; trauma; and Family Violence. Broad knowledge of the community resources, medical terminology, hospital systems, insurance guidelines, financial issues and risk management issues is preferred. Effective verbal and written communication skills and broad knowledge of computer systems required

Key Responsibilities
• Excellent clinical skills, with exceptional skills in rapid psychosocial assessment, crisis intervention and focused short-term treatment.
• Demonstrates high-level of clinical reasoning and advanced casework skills
• To provide social and emotional assessment, support and intervention for any child or adult presenting to ED where issues are identified as impacting on quality of life and outcomes for the family. This includes areas such as new diagnosis, trauma, bereavement, social issues affecting the wellbeing and family functioning.
• To address the psychosocial factors to reduce avoidable hospital admissions and Emergency Department presentations

Essential Criteria
• Member or eligibility of the AASW.
• Current Working with Children Check
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• Experience working in an Emergency Department
• Extensive experience in the area of family violence and/or prevention of violence.
