Position Summary Peninsula Health is offering an exciting opportunity to gain Post Graduate Qualifications in Critical Care Nursing. You can choose to study with Deakin or La Trobe, our partnership Universities.
Students rotate throughout the Emergency Department, the ICU and the Coronary Care Unit. Clinical support and education with designated study days will assist you in consolidating the theoretical and practical elements of the course. We offer a friendly and supportive clinical learning environment with experienced educators to offer you education and guidance. You will have an opportunity to care for critically ill adults as well as children as you develop your knowledge, skills and confidence in caring for a range of patients including the cardiac, high dependency and intensive care patient.
Only 2 years old, our Emergency Department and Coronary Care Unit come equipped with state of the art equipment, including a fully integrated cardiac monitoring system shared with ED and ICU. Each year, our ED treats more than 15,000 paediatric and 50,000 adult patients. We have 36 cubicles and 19 short stay emergency beds including a dedicated paediatric zone equipped with cardiac monitoring and a mental health short stay unit.
Our ICU has more than 1000 presentations per year and is a level 3 adult, mixed medical /surgical, renal and respiratory ICU. We are one of a few select ICUs in Victoria to offer haemolung therapy. Our Coronary Care Unit has 24 beds and our newly opened Rapid Assessment Cardiac unit has 8. We have a 24 hour PCI service and evolving doctor led research with a focus on cardiology. All three environments are rich with learning opportunities.
