What You Will Be Doing

The Department of Geriatric Medicine at Peninsula Health is a growing and vibrant unit with a commitment to become one of the leading such units in Victoria. The faculty consists of twelve geriatricians (sessional/full time) who are substantially invested in ensuring trainees achieve their goals. Trainees are also supported in their projects and quality/systems initiatives by a state-of-the-art Research and Academic Unit led by Prof Velandai Srikanth, Geriatrician and Professor of Medicine.

Inpatient services include a 20 patient Acute care of the elderly (ACE) ward and an Orthogeriatric service at Frankston Hospital, and three 30 bed GEM wards at The Mornington Centre. A 50 bed transition care programme (TCP) located across two aged care facility, and a fully-fledged ACAS program also form part of the service.
A full complement of specialty and general clinics are offered to the trainees including CDAMS, Falls & Balance, Continence & Urodynamics, Chronic Wound Clinic and Geriatric Medicine Clinic.

Peninsula Health is committed to encouraging and fostering an environment of continued learning and skill development. Trainees are ensured protected training time. They are encouraged and supported to attend local/National conferences and workshops. In addition, they are required to participate in a fortnightly Journal Club, weekly grand rounds, fortnightly M&M meetings and the South Eastern Training Alliance sessions, one of which will be conducted annually on-site at Peninsula Health.

There is a also opportunity to be part of substantial clinically relevant research projects for those entering their final phase of training under the guidance and mentorship of Prof Srikanth.

You will:
• Under direction, provide appropriate medical care to patients and assist more senior doctors in complex cases.
• Build and expand personal skill levels to ensure that clients receive the best possible service reflecting up to date evidence based professional practice
• Be aware of and work in accordance with organisational policies and procedures including occupational health and safety and relevant legislative requirements.
• Demonstrate positive workplace behaviours and relationships at all times.

What You Need
We anticipate you will have:

• Medical Practitioner Registration in Australia.
• Sound clinical knowledge, skills and experience in contemporary medical and evidence based practice.
• Ability to work as an effective member of a multidisciplinary clinical team

Selection Criteria Essential: MB BS or equivalent
Essential: Eligible for Limited or possess General registration as a Medical Practitioner with AHPRA. Due to the nature of the role, we will not be able to accommodate applicants with level 1 AHPRA supervision requirements.
