Position Summary

The Registered Nurse in Medical Imaging reports to the Nurse Unit Manager and also to the Team Leader who coordinates workflow on a daily basis.
The Registered Nurse in Interventional Radiology assists practitioners to carry out diagnostic and/or therapeutic procedures on conscious patients and also those who require sedation. At least one quarter of patients requiring intervention present as emergency cases and radiology nurses are available on a 24hour basis.
During any interventional radiology procedure, the nursing staff are an important aspect of the interventional team, either in a circulating or scrubbing role. Nurses are required for pre-procedural nursing care, procedural patient care and post care.

Key Responsibilities

• Assess, plan, implement, evaluate and document comprehensive nursing care within the area in accordance with evidence based best practice standards and Peninsula Health Values.
• Ensure the safety of the public, patients and staff in relation to the provision of a safe environment from both OH&S and Infection Control Perspectives.
• Complete all mandatory training as per hospital policy and participate in organised training and development activities.
• Ensure that the room is clean and prepared for the next case
• Recognising the early signs of complications and acting upon these as appropriate
• Communicate with other members of the interventional radiology team regarding the patient, thereby promoting good working relationships within the team
• Identify and act on potential hazards to both patients and staff, and where appropriate, act to prevent patient injury.
• Identify potential complications of various drugs used during the procedure, including contrast media.
• The registered nurse works competently within their scope of practice and follows Peninsula Health Policy and Guidelines.

Essential Criteria

• Registered Nurse with current AHPRA Registration
• Ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team
