Position Summary

The Mental Health Clinician, as a member of the multidisciplinary team, provides timely and responsive mental health assessment and treatment to people who require urgent, short term or ongoing intensive community based mental health assessment, treatment and support. The Clinician works competently within their scope of practice to deliver safe, evidence based person centred care to achieve optimal health outcomes.

The Community Mental Health Clinician, as a member of the multidisciplinary team, provides timely and responsive mental health assessment and treatment to people who require urgent, short term or ongoing intensive community based mental health assessment, treatment and support. The Clinician works competently within their scope of practice to deliver safe, evidence based person centred care to achieve optimal health outcomes.

About our Adult Intensive Treatment Team

The Mornington Adult Intensive Treatment Team provides community based short term treatment interventions for clients 25-64 years.

The team works with the client and their comprehensive assessment and care plan to provide intensive community based short term treatment interventions during an acute phase of illness as an alternative to hospitalisation. This includes frequent reviews by clinicians and specialist medical staff, including Consultant Psychiatrists, treatment provision and planning, liaison and linkage with private providers and primary care.

The team works a 7 day rotating roster, 3 shifts per day 8:30am-5pm , a mid shift and 2pm-10:30pm.

Key Responsibilities

• Positions at this level utilise advanced clinical knowledge and skills to provide quality mental health services within their professional scope of practice.
• Assess, plan, implement, evaluate and document comprehensive care within the area in accordance with evidence based best practice standards and Peninsula Health Values.
• Ensure the safety of the public, patients and staff in relation to the provision of a safe environment from both OH&S and Infection Control Perspectives.
• Complete all mandatory training as per policy and participate in organised training and development activities.
• Assist in the orientation of new staff and the supervision and instruction of students

Selection Criteria Essential: Nursing, Psychology, Occupational Therapy: Qualified and Registered, with relevant National Board (clinical psychology for Psychologist; Mental Health nursing qualification such as a post graduate qualification in psychiatric/mental health nursing or a specialist undergraduate psychiatric/mental h
Essential: Social Work: Degree in social work or other relevant qualification, with relevant qualification and approved for membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers
Essential: Demonstrated working knowledge and understanding of the Victorian Mental Health Act 1986, the National Standards for Mental Health Services 2010, the National Standards for the Mental Health Workforce 2002 and the Australian Council on Healthcare Standards including EQuIP
Essential: Able to use basic computer software applications.
Essential: Experience in the mental health field including acute inpatient services and/or community mental health care
Desirable: Working knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act (1985)
Desirable: A current Victorian Drivers Licence
