Position Summary
The Safe wards Project Coordinator will be responsible for implementing the Safe wards model in the Frankston and Rosebud Emergency Departments. This role will include collaboration with the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) and other trial sites. Implementation will include review of the current approach to restrictive interventions, liaison with staff, providing education and training, and writing reports for DHHS.

Key Responsibilities
• Be an active member of the state-wide Safe wards consultation committee
• Work with all levels of staff to develop an action plan for implantation and provide education and training of the Safe wards model and interventions.
• Collaborate with Key peninsula health staff to ensure smooth process of introduction of the model and that all areas are working to provide a consistent approach to the reduction of conflict and containment
• Develop policies related to the sustainable use of the Safe wards interventions in the Emergency Departments
• Work with the DHHS (or representatives) to evaluate the program and measure the impact on the use of restrictive practices and levels of clinical aggression in the Emergency Department.
• Ensure a high level of customer service is delivered at all times.
• Ensure the safety of the public, patients and staff in relation to the provision of a safe environment from both OH&S and Infection Control perspectives.
• Establish a structure and assessment/review of current practices within the Emergency Department in order to measure the utilisation and effectiveness of the Safe wards interventions
• To coordinate an evaluation framework for the program and measure the impact on the use of restrictive practices and levels of clinical aggression in the Emergency Department.
• Demonstrate a proactive approach with excellent skills in project and change management as well as program implementation to co-ordinate and embed the Safe wards model within the Emergency Department setting.
• Develop policies related to the sustainable use of the Safe wards interventions in the optimal management of de-escalation and clinical aggression as appropriate

Essential Criteria
• Registered / Enrolled Nurse with current AHPRA registration
• Demonstrated clinical knowledge and skills commensurate with experience and scope of practice
• Demonstrated high level interpersonal, leadership and communication skills.
• Demonstrated commitment to and knowledge of continuous improvement and associated quality and risk systems.
• Demonstrated competence in data management and report writing.
• Demonstrated organisational and decision making skills.
• Competence in computer programs, particularly MS Word and Excel
• Experience in management of clinical aggression and high level de-escalation skills.
• Comprehensive understanding of the current issues and policies impacting on the de-escalation and management of clinical aggression in the Emergency Department
• Previous experience in project management within the health industry.
