What You Will Be Doing

You will be providing adult acute and Acute Rehabilitation Program (ARP) speech pathology services within multidisciplinary inpatient teams, with flexible senior support based at Frankston Hospital 4 days per week (or equivalent hours over 5 days per week).

Acute inpatient services include a variety of general medical and surgical units.
ARP provides early rehabilitation in an acute setting, typically after a patient has spent a period of time as an acute inpatient. The role provides speech pathology assessment and management in the areas of communication, cognitive and swallowing disorders with a focus on supporting effective discharge planning.

Acute and ARP services and teams complement one another, and senior staff support effective communication and teamwork. Grade 2 Speech Pathologists provide clinical supervision and teaching to Grade 1 Speech Pathologists, Allied Health Assistants and undergraduate students where indicated. Clinical supervision and internal and external professional development further support the position.

*Please refer to ALLIED HEALTH PROFESSIONALS (VICTORIAN PUBLIC SECTOR) (SINGLE INTEREST EMPLOYERS) ENTERPRISE AGREEMENT 2021 – 2026 salary circular for salary range. Sub-grading will be based on years of experience.

Selection Criteria Essential: Current eligibility for practising membership of Speech Pathology Australia (SPA)
Essential: Provision of Speech Pathology assessment, treatment and discharge planning for adult patients, using patient centred principles, in the acute setting
Essential: Experience working with students and/or providing student or staff clinical supervision
Essential: Commitment to Professional Development and evidence based practice
Essential: Well-developed interpersonal and communication skills
Essential: Experience working in a multidisciplinary team
Essential: Ability to work flexibly and manage time effectively
Desirable: Competency in performing Videofluoroscopy Swallowing Studies (VFSS) (or willingness to gain and maintain competency with appropriate education and support
Desirable: Competency in performing Flexible Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallowing (FEES) (or willingness to gain and maintain competency with appropriate education and support. Competency in Tracheostomy (or willingness to gain and maintain competency with appropriate education and support
Desirable: Provision of speech pathology assessment, treatment and discharge planning for adult patients using patient centred principles in the rehabilitation setting
